Frequently Asked Questions
Already know the basics? Here you’ll find more detailed answers about how Get Melbourne Sorted works, how we research suppliers, payments, privacy, refunds and what happens if something doesn’t go to plan.
Using Get Melbourne Sorted
Can I use Get Melbourne Sorted for a one-off problem?
Yes. There is no membership or ongoing commitment required. You can use us for a single question, research task or practical problem whenever you need some help getting something sorted.
Can I use Get Melbourne Sorted more than once?
Absolutely. Your requests don't have to be related. You might need help finding a gardener today and assistance researching transport, technology or a local activity another time.
Do I need to be good with technology?
Not at all. In fact, that's one of the reasons we're here.
You don't need to spend hours searching online, comparing websites or trying to work out which businesses to contact. Tell us what you need and we can do the searching, checking and comparing for you.
Do I have to know exactly what service I need?
No. Tell us what you're trying to solve or organise. We can help work out what type of service or provider may be appropriate and explain what we can do to help.
Can I speak to a real person?
Yes. Having a real person available to help is an important part of Get Melbourne Sorted.
What information should I provide when contacting you?
Please give us enough information to properly understand what you need.
Depending on the request, useful information might include your suburb, what needs to be done, your preferred timeframe, approximate budget and any particular requirements that are important to you.
The more accurate the information you give us, the more accurately we can research your options and quote for our service.
Can I contact you by email or message?
Yes. When contacting us by email, text, chat or our online form, please provide enough information for us to understand your request and provide accurate information and pricing.
How quickly will you respond?
We aim to respond as promptly as practical during our normal business hours.
Research time varies depending on the request. Some searches can be completed relatively quickly, while others require us to contact businesses or obtain additional information.
Can you help with something urgent?
Tell us your timeframe when you contact us and we'll let you know whether we can reasonably assist.
Supplier availability can change quickly and cannot be guaranteed.
Is Get Melbourne Sorted an emergency service?
No. Get Melbourne Sorted is not an emergency or crisis service.
If there is an immediate threat to someone's health or safety, contact the appropriate emergency service directly.
Researching & Comparing Suppliers
How do you find suppliers?
We research according to your particular requirements, rather than simply giving every customer the same directory or list of businesses.
Depending on your request, we may consider location, reputation, reviews, experience, availability, pricing and relevant business credentials.
How do you check suppliers?
Depending on the type of service, our research may include:
publicly available customer reviews and ratings;
demonstrated reputation and experience;
business information;
location and service area;
availability;
pricing information;
relevant insurance information where reasonably available; and
current licences, registrations or qualifications where required or relevant.
Not every type of service requires a licence or professional registration.
Do you check licences?
Where a licence, registration or qualification is required or relevant to the work, we aim to check its current status using information reasonably available to us at the time of our research.
We don't claim that every type of business requires a licence because many everyday services do not.
Do you check reviews?
Yes, where relevant. Reviews and reputation may form part of our research.
We don't rely solely on a star rating. We consider the information reasonably available to us when assessing whether a provider appears suitable for your requirements.
Do you always choose the cheapest provider?
No. Cheapest doesn't necessarily mean best.
Depending on your requirements, we may consider price alongside reputation, suitability, experience, availability, location and relevant credentials.
You make the final decision.
Can you find a provider within my budget?
Yes. Tell us if you have a particular budget or price range and we can take that into account when researching your options.
Can you compare prices for me?
Yes. Where reliable pricing information is available, we can include it as part of the comparison.
Some providers need additional information or an onsite inspection before they can provide a final quote.
Can you find someone who services my particular suburb?
Yes. Location and service area are important parts of our research.
Can you find alternatives to a provider I've already found?
Yes. If you've already found one provider but would like alternatives before making a decision, we can research other options for comparison.
Will you always provide several options?
Where reasonably possible, we aim to provide suitable options to consider.
However, highly specialised, urgent, budget-specific or location-specific requests may have fewer suitable providers available.
Can you contact suppliers and ask questions for me?
Yes, where this forms part of the GMS service you have asked us to provide.
We can contact potential suppliers to clarify relevant information, availability, pricing or other matters needed for your research.
Can you negotiate the supplier's price?
We may ask questions about pricing, quotes and what's included where appropriate, but we cannot guarantee that a supplier will negotiate or reduce its price.
Our Independence
Do suppliers pay to be included in your results?
No.
Get Melbourne Sorted does not accept commissions, referral fees, payments, gifts or other incentives from suppliers or contractors in return for being selected, promoted or included in the options we present.
Do you have paid “preferred suppliers”?
No.
We don't operate a system where a business can pay us or provide another incentive to receive preferential treatment.
A supplier cannot pay Get Melbourne Sorted to appear ahead of another business in our research.
How do I know your recommendations aren't influenced by suppliers?
Because we work for you, not the supplier.
Our customer pays us for the research. Suppliers don't pay us to be included, and our aim is to identify suitable options according to your requirements and the information reasonably available to us.
Choosing & Paying a Supplier
Do I have to choose the supplier you find?
No. You are always in control.
We provide the research and options. You decide whether you want to proceed and which provider, if any, you wish to use.
Do you make the final decision for me?
No. We can make the choices easier to understand and compare, but the final decision remains yours.
Do you pay the supplier for me?
No.
The contract for the actual product or service is between you and the supplier you choose.
You pay that provider directly according to their quote, invoice and payment terms.
Your payment to Get Melbourne Sorted is separate and covers the research, comparison or coordination service you have asked us to provide.
Does Get Melbourne Sorted receive or hold money for suppliers?
No. We don't ordinarily act as a payment intermediary between you and the supplier.
You pay your chosen supplier directly.
What if the supplier asks for a deposit?
Any deposit, progress payment or final payment is an arrangement between you and the supplier.
Before paying, make sure you understand the supplier's quote, payment terms and cancellation conditions.
Who is my contract with?
There are two separate relationships.
Your agreement with Get Melbourne Sorted covers the research, comparison or coordination service you purchase from us.
If you subsequently engage a supplier, your agreement for the underlying work, product or service is between you and that supplier.
Helping Parents, Relatives & Friends
Can I contact you on behalf of a parent or relative?
Yes. Family members can engage us to research or coordinate assistance for someone else.
Who pays when I'm arranging something for somebody else?
The person who engages Get Melbourne Sorted is responsible for our fee, unless a different payment arrangement has been expressly agreed in writing beforehand.
Can you simply charge my parent or relative instead?
No.
We will not contact the person receiving or benefiting from our assistance and ask them to pay our fee merely because the service relates to them.
Can somebody else agree to pay the GMS fee?
Yes, but this must be agreed before the paid work begins.
The person engaging us and the proposed payer must expressly agree to the arrangement in writing, and Get Melbourne Sorted must accept the arrangement.
What if the person I'm helping says they weren't consulted?
Engaging Get Melbourne Sorted on behalf of another person does not automatically make that person responsible for our fee.
The person who engaged us remains responsible unless an alternative payment arrangement was expressly agreed in writing beforehand.
Can I use GMS to help someone in Melbourne if I live interstate or overseas?
Yes. This can be particularly useful for family members who aren't nearby.
We can research Melbourne options for you while you remain the person engaging us and responsible for our fee unless another payment arrangement has been agreed beforehand.
Will you respect my parent's or relative's privacy?
Yes.
Helping someone does not automatically give another family member authority to receive their private information or make decisions for them.
Where appropriate, we may require consent before sharing personal information concerning another adult.
Home & Garden
What home and garden services can you help find?
This might include cleaners, gardeners, lawn care, handymen, window cleaners, rubbish removal, maintenance services and other practical household assistance.
Can you find someone for a small job?
Yes. Tell us what needs doing and we'll research appropriate options.
Can you help obtain quotes?
Yes, where appropriate. We can research potential providers and help coordinate quote enquiries.
Does GMS perform the work?
No. We research and help you find appropriate independent providers.

Can you find meal services?
Yes. This may include prepared meals, meal delivery, grocery services, cooking assistance and other practical food-related services.
Can you research dietary requirements?

When Things Don't Go to Plan
What happens if Get Melbourne Sorted can't find a suitable supplier?
If we accept a paid supplier-search request but cannot find at least one supplier that reasonably meets the material requirements agreed with you before the search began, we will refund the applicable Get Melbourne Sorted supplier-search fee in full.
Our Suitable Supplier Guarantee is in addition to your rights under Australian Consumer Law.
What does “suitable supplier” mean?
A suitable supplier is one that, based on information reasonably available to us at the time of our research, reasonably meets the important requirements agreed with you before we begin the search.
This might include the service required, location, relevant requirements, availability, agreed budget considerations and licences or qualifications where required or relevant.
What if you find a suitable supplier but I decide not to use them?
That's completely your choice. You are never obliged to use a supplier we find.
However, if we have completed the agreed service and identified a suitable option, deciding not to proceed does not by itself qualify for a refund under our Suitable Supplier Guarantee.
What if I change my mind?
If you change your mind before we commence paid work, contact us and we will refund the GMS service fee you have paid for that work.
Once the agreed work has commenced or been completed, we do not ordinarily provide a refund solely because you have changed your mind.
This does not affect our Suitable Supplier Guarantee or any rights you have under Australian Consumer Law.
Do you guarantee a supplier's work?
No. Suppliers and contractors are independent businesses.
We take reasonable care with our research, but we cannot guarantee how an independent supplier will perform in the future.
Get Melbourne Sorted remains responsible for providing our own service in accordance with applicable Australian Consumer Law.
What should I do if I'm unhappy with a supplier you helped me find?
Please tell us.
We ask that you provide as much relevant information as possible about what happened. This might include correspondence, quotes, invoices, photographs or other information relating to the problem.
Although the underlying contract is between you and the supplier, we take supplier feedback seriously.
We may review the information and, where appropriate, make further enquiries.
If we believe a supplier or contractor no longer meets the standards we expect, we may remove that business from our supplier records and stop including it in future customer searches.
What if the supplier doesn't provide the service or product?
Raise the matter directly with the supplier because the underlying contract and payment are between you and that business.
You may also have rights under Australian Consumer Law.
Please also tell us about significant problems so we can consider whether that supplier should remain in our supplier records.
What if the service or product isn't as described?
Again, the underlying product or service is supplied under your agreement with the independent supplier.
You should raise the issue directly with them and may have remedies under Australian Consumer Law.
We also encourage you to tell us so we can review the supplier's continued inclusion in future searches.
What if I'm unhappy with the service Get Melbourne Sorted itself provided?
Please contact us and tell us what went wrong so we can investigate.
GMS's own services are subject to applicable consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law, including guarantees relating to due care and skill and, where applicable, fitness for purpose and reasonable time.
Your statutory consumer rights are not removed by our change-of-mind or refund policies.
Privacy & Personal Information
What personal information do you collect?
We collect information reasonably necessary to understand your enquiry, communicate with you and provide the service you request.
Further information is available in our Privacy Policy.
Will you give my information to suppliers?
If you ask us to obtain information, quotes or coordinate a service, we may need to provide a potential supplier with information reasonably necessary for that purpose.
Will you share my information with family members?
Not automatically.
Being someone's relative does not automatically entitle another person to receive their personal information.
What information should I avoid sending through the contact form?
Please don't send unnecessary sensitive personal information through a general website form, email, text or chat.
If we require additional information to perform your request, we'll let you know.
Other Important Questions
Do you provide legal, medical, financial or taxation advice?
No. Get Melbourne Sorted provides practical research, comparison and coordination assistance.
Where professional advice is required, we may help you research an appropriately qualified professional, but the advice itself should come directly from that professional.
Can I use Get Melbourne Sorted if I'm under 50?
Yes, absolutely.
Although Get Melbourne Sorted has been designed particularly with older Melburnians and their families in mind, our services are available to adults of all ages across Melbourne.
If you're busy, overwhelmed by choices or simply don't want to spend your time searching and comparing services yourself, we're happy to help.
What is the difference between Get Melbourne Sorted and Airtasker?
Airtasker is an online marketplace where customers post tasks and receive offers from people interested in performing the work.
Get Melbourne Sorted works differently. You tell us what you need and we do the research for you.
We aren't a bidding platform. We research and compare suitable businesses or services according to your requirements and present the options for you to consider.
You choose the provider, you contract with them directly and you pay them directly.
Why should I pay GMS when I could search online myself?
You certainly can research everything yourself.
Get Melbourne Sorted is for those times when you'd rather have a real person do the searching, checking and comparing for you.
You're paying for our time and assistance in cutting through the choices and presenting useful options based on what you've told us you need.
Are you a directory?
No. We don't simply provide the same list of businesses to everyone.
Our research is based on the individual customer's request.
Will you pressure me to buy something?
No.
We provide the information and options. You decide whether to proceed.
What if you can't help with my request?
We'll tell you.
We don't want you paying us for something that is clearly outside our scope or that we cannot reasonably assist with.
Still have a question?
If you haven't found the answer you're looking for, just ask.
Tell us what you need and we'll let you know how we can help.
You ask. We research. You choose.
Just ask. We’ll help you get it sorted.
